Myelography Definition. Myelography is a radiographic and fluoroscopic examination of the spinal canal. A contrast agent is injected through a needle into the space around the spinal cord (intrathecal sapace) to display the spinal cord, spinal canal, and nerve roots on an x ray.. Purpose. A CT Scan Myelogram is an X-ray examination of your spinal cord and spinal nerves enhanced with a dye-like solution injected into the fluid in the spinal column. Myelography can assist in diagnosing such abnormalities as spinal canal narrowing, herniated discs, and other conditions which may cause pressure on the spinal cord or nerves.
A spinal needle is introduced into the spinal canal followed by injection of a contrast material into the space around the spinal cord and nerve roots (subarachnoid space) and then fluoroscopy or X-rays are performed. The contrast material helps allow the radiologist to evaluate the integrity of the spinal cord, the nerve root, and the meninges. Abstract. Computed tomography (CT) and magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) of the spine have drastically reduced the need for myelography. Although it was once the primary procedure for evaluating disorders affecting the spinal cord and nerve roots, today myelography .
A myelogram is a diagnostic imaging test generally done by a radiologist. It uses a contrast dye and X-rays or computed tomography (CT) to look for problems in the spinal canal. Problems can develop in the spinal cord, nerve roots, and other tissues. This test is also called myelography. Myelography (Myelogram) is a diagnostic examination of the spine. A special x-ray sensitive contrast dye is injected to illuminate the spine, allowing identification of problems within the spine, spinal cord .

The contrast material serves to illuminate your spinal canal, cord and nerve roots during imaging. After the injection, x-rays will be taken using the fluoroscopy machine. The second part is a CT exam to capture images of your spine. William P. Dillon, Christopher F. Dowd, in Aminoff's Neurology and General Medicine (Fifth Edition), Terminology.
Myelography entails plain-film examination of the spine following intrathecal instillation of iodinated contrast media through either a lumbar puncture or a cervical puncture at the C1–C2 level, posterior to the spinal cord. Water-soluble, nonionic contrast agents are used.
The contrast injection portion of the procedure is typically done through the lumbar area, and reported with CPT code (Injection procedure for myelography and/or CT, spinal).
Injection of contrast for myelography may also be performed through the cervical region, which is reported with CPT code (Cisternal or lateral cervical (C1-C2. noninvasive and improved soft-tissue contrast > largely replaced both myelography and CT myelography; CT Myelography Advantages.

In fair condition, suitable as. CT Myelogram Why Combine CT Scanning with Myelography. To understand a CT scan with myelography, it is important to first understand the two components. A Computerized Tomography (CT or CAT) scan helps to diagnose different spinal conditions including congenital spinal deformities, spondylolysis (or vertebral stress fracture), and other vertebral fractures.
Myelography is helpful to detect and diagnose spinal disorders that cause myelopathy—or, spinal cord compression, such as spinal infections, tumors, or traumatic injuries. Myelopathy symptoms are neurologic and may include neck pain, back pain, numbness, tingling sensations, and/or difficulty buttoning a shirt or walking.Techniques, Anatomy and Pathology in Children, CT and Myelography of the Spine and Cord, H.
